Winter Wardrobe Staples Every Woman Should Own

For the next few posts I am going to be talking all about winter and the things that are the most important. Today this series is being kicked off with a guest post...

With the coldest two months just ahead of us, making sure you have everything you need to be able to stay warm and dry is essential. With this in mind I thought I would put together this short winter wardrobe staples article.

A proper winter coat

Without a doubt, winter coats are a definite wardrobe staple. A good one will keep the worst of the cold wind, rain and snow out.

For 2018, there are some really stylish and good-quality ones available. For example, for the first time in many years it is really easy to buy classically tailored wool coats. These are often double-breasted, which means that you are effectively protecting much of your core with two layers of fabric. Studies show that if you keep your core warm your extremities will stay considerably warmer too, so these are a particularly good option. Also, keep an eye out for cropped puffers, revamped trench cuts, faux fur and teddy coats. All of which are stylish and a little different.

Stylish yet practical boots

The other item you absolutely must own is a pair of good-quality boots. For this season, the main trends are over-the-knee boots, 80s style booties, combat styling, high shine, animal print and knee high boots.

With so much choice finding something that works with your favourite way of dressing will not be difficult. Just be sure that whatever you choose is practical as well as stylish. For example, buying lower heels rather than high ones is generally better, for the winter. It is also wise to buy a pair with reasonably thick soles. These will stop the cold from seeping into your feet as easily.

The right hat gloves and scarf

Even if you are not a big fan of wearing a hat, scarf and gloves it is still wise to own them. On very cold days, you will be glad that you do. This year, there is no one trend that is dominating, but you can expect to see more ear warmers and beret inspired hats around.

Knitwear

For the winter months, knitwear is essential. If you want to find out more about what is on trend this year and how to wear it, you can do so by reading the article I wrote on that very subject, by clicking here

A way to keep your legs warm

In the winter, you need to find a way to cover up your legs, so that they stay nice and warm. How you do this is up to you. There are plenty of ways to do this, so it is easy to be true to your sense of style and put together outfits that you still enjoy wearing. Your main options are jeans, trousers, tights or longish, relatively heavy skirts or dresses.

If you can, choose items that are made from natural fabrics. In general, materials like cotton, silk and wool regulate your body temperature better, something which can help you to feel that little bit warmer. This article explains why that is the case and how you can take advantage of the properties of natural fabrics to keep yourself feeling comfortable.
