FOTD; Diwali Celebrations

Diwali Celebrations

Another 'What's on my Face' post today, and today is the weekend of Diwali! And I thought I would share with you the look I decided to go with, Diwali was actually on Thursday but the celebrations in my household carry on for the whole weekend! Happy Diwali to anyone who also celebrates!

Face

L'Oréal True Match Foundation// I have only had this since September and even though that isn't a very long time I have fallen in love with. The formula, texture, coverage and lasting of it is genius and the bonus is that I don't even have to use a primer because my skin prefers it without!

Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer// My skin looks a little more flawless with this foundation so I don't the need for a lot of face concealer, but my under eye circles need a lot of covering up and this does the trick perfectly.

Rimmel Matte Powder// Not too much on this powder apart from the fact that it sets everything in place and doesn't make my face go all shiny and weird.

MAC Bronzer// A lovely natural glow in the night and in the middle of October is ok right? I love how this shade looks on my skin and gives me this lovely bronze look even though my skin is pretty dark in the winter.

Natural Collection Blush in Rosey Glow// This is a very new addition to my makeup routine, I found this gem when I was tidying up a while back now and every since have not stopped using it! I love how natural it looks and doesn't make me look overly flushed.

MUA Highlighter// This is the prettiest thing I have ever seen! I use this on my cheeks and my eyes as a highlighter because its just so pretty and beautiful.

Eyes

Diwali Celebrations

Sleek Oh So Special// I really neglect my Sleek palettes and always stick to the UD ones, but in fact the Sleek ones are amazing too and super pigmented! the picture above shows the colours that I used and I believe they are called 'Organza (the second on the top row) and Ribbon (the one next to it)' I mixed them together on my lid to create the colour of my base and then in the crease I used a little bit of 'Celebrate(last one on the top row)' these names are also related to the occasion so I thought that is perfect!

Maybelline Rocket Volume Mascara//  An oldie but a goodie, this mascara made life simple for me because it came off at night which is by bug bear when mascara clings on to your eyelashes. Love the natural look this gives my eyes and its been collecting dust for a long time now, so it was about time I used it again!

Lips

Now I really struggled with the colour of my lips for this look, at first I put Tanya Burr's 'Picnic in the Park' but in the end I went with a red because why not?

Bourjois Rouge Edition in Hot Pepper// This colour looks so pretty at night and this is the only one from the four I have that I haven't yet used so this was a first time...and I loved the result.

I loved the way my makeup turned out and didn't expect the Sleek palette to be this good and the lips work great with the eyes too! Got another part tonight and very much looking forward to it, Happy Diwali!

A Visit to Specsavers in Leeds| Part 1

A Visit to Specsavers in Leeds|

Last week, I made my way to Leeds when it was raining, miserable and basically had everyone on the train in a really bad mood. I headed over to Specsavers on Albion St. to be greeted by a team of wonderful people who were going to be showing me around and help me pick out a new pair of glasses. The purpose of the visit was to see what their store is like, learn more about what their brand is and discover more about the ear care and eye care options they have available.

The Specsavers Eye Test
For years I have been going to a local options and let me tell you now they have been cheating me of my money (well parents and NHS) for years and telling me useless information instead of the stuff I wanted to know. I stopped going there about a year and a bit ago because I didn't like the choices of frames I had their. When the store became aware of this, they took my current glasses and tested them to see the prescription of them to then compare.
I had a  pre-test and then an eye test..at first I was a bit taken back and worried because I had no idea what that meant! The pre-test is to check that your eyes are healthy and all well inside, using a special machine the lovely assistant Peter measured the pressure in my eye and took images of my eye to hand to the option later to see if everything is well. Then I called by the option herself to her room for my actual eye examination, this was the part I was most looking forward to as I wanted to see how it differs from my previous experience.
It involved her testing each eye separately and then together, as well as asking me my families medical history as some things can be hereditary. After checking each eye she then made sure that my eyes were able to focus at different distances and then she explained everything to me about my prescription, the condition of my eyes and made me feel so comfortable I felt as though I had known her forever. I believe her name was Kiran, and she was amazing!

The Styling
At Specsavers they understand that each person is different and not everyone can look by themselves and pick out a new frame that will suit them. So they buddy you up with a frame stylist who guides you through the whole process, the lovely Julia helped me to pick out some awesome frames. The stylists at every store now what they are doing, and by looking at your face shape and features they pick out a range of different frames for you, then you try and see which you like the best. There is also so much choice in this store, in both the women's section and men's, which can be quite overwhelming so having a stylist made life easier!

The store in Leeds and I presume a few stores have a 'Magic Mirror' which is a camera that takes photos of you with each frame on as it can be really difficult trying on new glasses when you can't see what they look like! After taking the pictures, you can look clearly at each image and see which you like best.
Specsavers have a 2 for 1 offer on currently and if not that are always having offers on so I managed to pick up two pairs of glasses that are completely different to anything I have ever owned. I sat down at a little desk with the stylist and she took measurements of the frames on me to see what needs adjusting and making sure that they sit comfortably on my nose and everything is centred.

7 things you need to do to take your best ever #selfie

7 things you need to do to take your best ever #selfie
Love it or hate it, we are all a part of the selfie generation. Not only was the term ‘selfie’ added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2013, it was also picked as their word of the year. Check any of your social media news feeds right now, and no doubt you’ll find oodles of examples of this self-loving artistry, and what a breath of fresh air that is.
In a world where we’re constantly being told we aren’t good enough, the selfie gives us the chance to present our best side; to create an online persona we can be proud of and profile pictures that don’t make us cringe. Kim Kardashian is well known as the ‘queen of the selfies’ (particularly after that white swimsuit picture), and there’s no doubt she looks beautiful in every photo she takes. But you’ve got to ask yourself, how much of it is selfie skill, and how much is simply because she’s stunning from any angle? And if it’s the latter, what help is there for us mere mortals of taking a selfie to be proud of?
Thankfully you don’t necessarily have to be a supermodel to take a cute selfie. Sure, you can’t actually perform plastic surgery with your phone cam, but you can take advantage of some little tricks and tips to make every shot just a little bit better.
1.    Set the scene
When you’re thinking about your selfie, consider what, other than your face, is going to be in the shot. As much as you might be keen to snap a laid back selfie at your dressing table in the morning, the sight of last night’s underwear draped over the chair behind you is probably not something you wanted to share. Having something amazing in the background is always a plus, but if you don’t happen to be at a BeyoncĂ© concert at the time, think about natural beauty such as trees and sky, or subtle, stylish and underwear free locations at home.

2.    Kiss and make up
Getting your make up just right can make the difference between looking stunning in your selfie and being entered for the ‘clown of the year’ contest. Sure, you can go a little heavier on the makeup than you might normally, as only a fraction of what the eye sees is successfully transferred to camera. But avoid going OTT and ending up looking like an embarrassed panda, because once that image is out there, you can’t take it back.

3.    Light your fire
Good lighting is crucial, not only to help your camera capture the pigments and colours in the shot correctly, but also to flatter and enhance your natural colouring. Natural light is always flattering, but avoid direct sunlight if you don’t want to look washed out. Fluorescent strip lighting is the worst, so if you are indoors try and go for LED lighting with a warm white hue to bring out your best angles.

4.    Strike a pose
What to do with your face is always a bit of a conundrum. Our advice: Don’t do the duckface. It might give you cheekbones, but it’s horribly fake and makes you look rather silly. If all else fails, go for a natural, cute smile, flashing a bit of teeth and nice wide eyes.

5.    Untangle the angle
The default angle for the perfect selfie is with the camera just a bit higher than your eye level and with your face turned at a three quarters angle. This universally looks good, so if in doubt, get this one off pat and you’ll be safe. Feel free to experiment too in order to pin down your own ‘best side’ though.

6.    Filter wisely
There is nothing quite as attractive as a #nofilter selfie taken in good, natural light. However, sometimes we all need a little extra help, and that’s where your filters come in to play. A popular choice is Valencia, which doesn’t do too much to change your skin tone but effectively irons out the creases and shadows from the night before. It’s just a pity there’s no Valencia filter for real life!

7.    Everything in moderation
There is no shame in taking the odd selfie. We all do it. What is a big no-no, however, is continually clogging up your mate’s news feeds with streams of self-indulgent images of yourself to the point that they start blocking or unfriending you as a result. The best things in life taste sweetest when taken in moderation, and the humble #selfie is no different. By all means have a happy snapping moment when you’re on your way out, when you’re with your bff, or to mark an important occasion, but keep it to a reasonable level if you don’t want to look like a prat.

We’ll certainly be watching our news feeds with interest to see how you get on in putting our top selfie tips to the test. Enjoy your selfie adventures!

Accidental MAC Haul!

Accidental MAC Haul!
Someone may have spent a little bit of money on some MAC things..but in all fairness I was able to buy everything discounted thanks to a little shop near where my grandma lives! No idea of the name, but am defo going to be buying some more things and might even pick up some things for you lovely lot?!
Accidental MAC Haul!
The most exciting purchase was the limited edition Gaga lipstick in 'Riveting Rose' and its so shiny and sparkly that I don't really want to use it or swatch it!

Another product that I picked up to go along with the lipstick is this lip gloss thing in 'Dark Crimson' a gorgeous red. I think that these two will make a beautiful combo for the Autumn time.

I have a lot of Mascaras, but I had to buy one more right! The fancy packaging on this one had me at first sight, and its a dual one so I guess its for extra volume and thickness.

Another favourite purchase, this gorgeous blush in 'Dollymix' has got me thinking of all different kinds of looks that I can do with it. I have a slight obsession at the moment with blush and can't stop buying them and this barbie like pink seems a little bit daring but I know that I will love it, when it comes to wearing it!
