If there’s one beauty product that’s truly iconic, it’s Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Liner. It’s been a cult favourite for years, loved by celebs, makeup artists and beauty lovers around the world. But what many people don’t know is there’s now a Pillow Talk Medium Lip Liner — and for me, it’s actually the better pick!
If you’re trying to decide between the original Pillow Talk and Pillow Talk Medium, here’s a full comparison — covering price, colour, layering options, and wear time — so you can choose the perfect one for you.
Price Comparison
Both lip liners are priced exactly the same — currently £21 each (as of June 2025). So no difference there — it really comes down to which shade works better for your look.
Colour Comparison: Pillow Talk vs Pillow Talk Medium
Original Pillow Talk Lip Liner is a soft, pinky-nude that works beautifully for fair to light skin tones or anyone after a subtle, natural “your lips but better” look. It’s delicate and pretty — but if you have medium or deeper skin, or just prefer a slightly more defined lip, it can sometimes look a bit too light.
That’s where Pillow Talk Medium comes in. It’s a richer, rosier nude with a little more depth — a perfect choice if you love a more defined lip or wear slightly deeper nude or rose lipstick shades. For me, it’s way more flattering and versatile — especially if you have medium, olive, or tan skin tones.
What Can They Be Layered With?
Both liners pair beautifully with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipsticks and Lip Cheats, but I find Pillow Talk Medium is the more versatile option for layering. It works so well with deeper pinks, mauves, browns, and rose shades — plus, you can use it under gloss for a fuller-lip effect.
If you like more dramatic lip looks, Medium is definitely easier to pair with a variety of lipsticks. The original Pillow Talk works best for softer, daytime makeup.
Longevity & Wear Time
Both versions have that signature Lip Cheat formula: creamy enough to glide on easily, but with great staying power. I get about 6-7 hours of wear from both before needing a quick touch-up, and they fade really evenly — no weird patchiness.
But again — because Pillow Talk Medium has a slightly richer colour, it tends to “hold” better under gloss or creamier lipstick formulas. The original is lovely but a little more subtle, so if you’re after all-day definition, Medium just has the edge.
Final Thoughts — Which One Should You Buy?
Both of these lip liners are beautiful — you really can’t go wrong. But for me, Pillow Talk Medium wins. It’s the more flattering shade for a wider range of skin tones, pairs better with more lip colours, and lasts beautifully through the day.
If you’re a long-time Pillow Talk Lip Liner fan and want to freshen up your look — or if you’ve always found the original a little too light — definitely give Pillow Talk Medium a try. I think you’ll love it!
